SSH - Secure Socket Shell

SSH SSH (Secure Socket Shell) is a secure version of telnet.  We do not allow telnet connections to our servers.

Note:  SSH and FTP are the only approved method of accessing the filesystem remotely.  Please do NOT use telnet/cgi programs, as that will result in your account being shutdown.

In order to be approved for SSH access, please fax a copy of your driver's license to 775.295.4330.

Once approved, select the "SSH" panel in your administrative suite.  If you are not familiar with RSA keys and public/private cryptography, feel free to bypass the next screen.

You will then be prompted to place up to 3 IP addresses / hostnames to allow connections from.  If you do not know your IP address or hostname, refer to the note at the bottom of this article.

Once you have entered the details in, you will be allowed to connect to the server via SSH.

If you require a SSH client, windows customers can download Putty, a free SSH client:

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

Note:  SSH access is a privilege, please respect that, and other customers on your machine.

Please be careful while on the machine, SSH access should be used only by customers who are familiar with the Unix command line.

Note:  In order to determine your IP address, click on the "Network Troubleshooter" in your control panel.  If you feel you may have a dynamic IP address, feel free to use your hostname.

If you require further assistance, please submit a help desk request.
