MySQL Database
MySQL FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)Q: What is MySQL?MySQL is a relational database, popular for it's speed and stability. Although not as full featured as other databases (it currently does not support Views or Transactions), MySQL is used extensively to provide the backend for database driven websites. Q: What version of MySQL are you running? Our servers are currently running MySQL 3.23.54 Q: How do I install my MySQL database? From your control panel, click on MySQL Database and follow the instructions from there. One MySQL database is available to Package A and above accounts. Q: How do I manage my MySQL database?Your control panel has PHPMyAdmin installed, a popular script that provides a web based graphical user interface (GUI) to MySQL. After installation, PHPMyAdmin is available by clicking on the MySQL Database button. Q: Why does the MySQL Database button in the control panel asks me for a password? If you change your password via the control panel AFTER installing MySQL, the latter will not recognize the password change (a good strategy to keep your database and account password separate). If you do not remember your original password to access MySQL, contact support to sync your MySQL password to your account password. Q: How do I access MySQL from the command line?If you are familiar with the command line interface, you can access it via /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -u $USER -p $DATABASE_NAME Q: What support do you provide for MySQL?We are unable to provide direct support for database development. If you are beginning, and wish to explore the possibility of database driven websites, take a look at the tutorial within the documentation at mysql.com to get an idea of what databases can do for you. Q: Where do I find out more about MySQL?http://www.mysql.com - Has a decent documentation, the tutorial chapter is a must read for anyone starting out with MySQL. http://forums.devshed.com - Has an active community which cover MySQL among other topics. |
